Lot 1o – Wyoming apple green nephrite jade jewelry grade sm slabs
50.60g Size – 8 pieces – Most are 3/16″ thick
Here’s a chance to own some unique Wyoming jade history from one of the first prospectors of the jade rush.
Premium, historic Wyoming apple green nephrite jade jewelry grade off cuts from the Rhoads jade shop in Lander, Wyoming. These were cut 60-70 years ago during the heyday of the Wyoming jade rush and show the white oxidation on the surfaces of being exposed to air for so long. This oxidation quickly disappears once put to a polishing or grinding wheel. 3 photos show wet, dry and translucency.
Pendants, earrings, beads, inlay and more are all possible with these gemmy leftovers from a bygone era. Many of the pieces are likely from the 3,400 pound boulder the Rhodes family found in 1942, for sure most of these pieces are from boulders they found on their claims in and around the Cottonwood Creek area of Crooks Mountain, near Jeffrey City Wyoming.
If you buy these and make jewelry from them make sure to market with the story of their origin as these are a famous part of Wyoming jade history and Bert Rhoads one of the early jade hunter pioneers. Use quarter in each photo for size reference.
